MINUSCA condemns Monday incidents in Bangui

The Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) dismantled barricades erected by hostile demonstrators from the early morning hours in Bangui.

MINUSCA firmly condemns the incidents that affected several neighborhoods in the capital and left four dead and 14 injured, including five peacekeepers. MINUSCA is working with Central African authorities to provide support for in-depth investigations into the circumstances of these incidents.

MINUSCA considers Monday’s events to be another attempt by enemies of peace to reverse the Central African Republic’s return to constitutional order. The Mission will act against those seeking to obstruct efforts by elected authorities to bring peace and stability to the country.

MINUSCA also denounces the campaign to denigrate peacekeepers. MINUSCA will continue to carry out its mission in the Central African Republic according to its mandate. MINUSCA further notes that violence against peacekeepers is subject to international criminal prosecution.
