SRSG takes note of elections provisional results and recall commitment to the code of good conduct

The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in the Central African Republic, Parfait Onanga-Anyanga, takes note of the provisional results of the second round of the presidential election held on 14 February announced this Saturday by the National Elections Authority (ANE).
 
According to the provisional figures released by the ANE, Faustin Archange Touadéra won 62.71 percent of votes while Anicet Georges Doléguélé took 37.29 percent.
 
The Special Representative expressed satisfaction with the ANE’s publication of the results of the presidential election by polling center, as well as with the improvements made to ensure the good conduct of the 14 February combined elections.
 
Although these are provisional results, the Special Representative
congratulates presidential candidate Faustin Archange Touadéra, who won the most votes. The Special Representative also congratulates presidential candidate Anicet Dologuele for his concession speech, which illustrates his statesmanship and will significantly contribute to ensuring a peaceful climate and stability in the Central African Republic. 
 
The Special Representative commends the high level of patriotism and maturity demonstrated by the presidential candidates during both the electoral campaign and the announcement of the provisional results by the ANE.
 
The Special Representative exhorts the camps of the presidential candidates to sensitize their members and sympathizers to remain modest in victory and to avoid any form of violence, in accordance with the commitments made through the Code of Good Conduct of political parties and candidates signed on 9 and 12 December 2015 in Bangui.
 
The Special Representative calls all Central Africans to preserve the spirit of peace that has prevailed thus far, and to wait in all serenity for the publication of the final results by the Transitional Constitutional Court. He recalls that the current electoral process in the Central African Republic also caters for a second round of legislative elections.
 
The Special Representative reiterates the United Nations’ commitment to remain by the side of the authorities and the Central African population, in order to conclude this electoral process which will mark the return to Constitutional order and end in a peaceful way the crisis in the Central African Republic.
