MINUSTAH
United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti

Closure of MINUSTAH

The United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) successfully completed its mission on 15 October 2017, transitioning to United Nations Mission for Justice Support in Haiti (MINUJUSTH) to continue supporting Haiti’s rule of law, police development, and human rights efforts.

A Statue to Immortalize the Struggle for Peace

On Thursday, September 28, 2017, MINUSTAH, the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti, inaugurated a statue named "An chwazi lapè" (Let's choose peace) and simultaneously launched a comic book titled "Ochan pour Nirva" (Ocean for Nirva).

This work aims to spark debate within communities, encourage, and support young Haitians who face challenges every day, and to spark discussions in schools and cultural centers about the choices and alternatives available to them to bridge the divide between violence and access to development for all in Haiti.

As MINUSTAH's mandate nears its end, the UN mission in Haiti sought to use this ceremony to conclude the "An chwazi lapè vyolans ap detwi lavi nou" (Choosing peace, violence will destroy our lives) campaign, launched four years ago in Haiti to prevent violence in the country.
