The United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) successfully completed its mission on 15 October 2017, transitioning to United Nations Mission for Justice Support in Haiti (MINUJUSTH) to continue supporting Haiti’s rule of law, police development, and human rights efforts.

The President of the General Assembly expresses his sadness over the loss of lives and destruction in Haiti’s tropical storm

The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser wishes to express his sadness over the loss of lives and destruction in Haiti as a result of tropical storm Isaac.

The President extends his condolences to the people and Government of Haiti and especially the families of those who have been killed in this storm.

He also wishes to express his support for the efforts provided by the Government of Haiti with the assistance of the UN and other international organizations.

President AL-Nasser re-iterates the need for all Member States of the United Nations to re-double their efforts in the area of “Improving Disaster Prevention and Response”, which is one of the key areas of focus during the 66th Session of the General Assembly.
