The United Nation Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) concluded its mandate on 9 July 2011, coinciding with South Sudan’s independence, transitioning to the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) to support the new nation’s stability and development.

10 June - Sudan DDR programme launched in southern Sudan, $30 million pledged by GoSS

The release of $30 million for the Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) programme in southern Sudan was announced earlier today in Juba at the launch of the DDR programme in the region.
