The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

The security situation in Tawilla area remains calm but unpredictable. On 7 September, a UNAMID on its way from El Fasher to Tarabat was stopped by a Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) convoy and were informed by the commanding officer not to return before two days due to ongoing SAF operations in the area.

No other significant incidents were reported during the past 24 hours. UNAMID continues to conduct 24/7 patrols in and around the camps and villages.
