The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

Statment attributable to the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General on the Dakar Agreement

14 March 2008 -- "The Secretary-General commends the Governments of Chad and the Sudan for the Agreement they reached in Dakar yesterday under the auspices of President Abdoulaye Wade. He is encouraged by their stated determination and commitment to normalize their bilateral relations. He calls on the two countries to remain steadfast in their resolve to restore peace and stability along their shared border, as this would contribute to wider stability in the region as a whole," according to a statement attributable to the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General.

"The United Nations remains supportive of the ongoing regional peace efforts, and looks forward to working closely with all parties concerned to ensure the full and speedy implementation of the Dakar Agreement," the statement concluded.
