18 December 2001 - In paragraph 15 (d) of its resolution 1333 (2000) of 19 December 2000, the Security Council requested me to report periodically on the humanitarian implications of the sanctions on the territory of Afghanistan under Taliban control and to present a comprehensive report on this issue no later than 30 days prior to the expiration of the measures imposed by the resolution. 6 December 2001 - The present report is submitted pursuant to paragraph 31 of General Assembly resolution 55/174 A of 19 December 2000, in which the Assembly requested me to report on the progress of the United
Nations Special Mission to Afghanistan (UNSMA). The report, which covers developments since the issuance on 20 November 2000 of my last annual report (A/55/633-S/2000/1106), is also submitted in response to requests by the Security Council for regular information on the main developments in Afghanistan. Two progress reports have been submitted this year, the first on 19 April 2001 (A/55/907-S/2001/384) and the second on 17 August 2001 A/55/1028-S/2001/789).
