Closure of UNAMID

The United Nations – African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) mandate ended on 31 December 2020 following UN Security Council Resolution 2559, concluding over a decade of peacekeeping efforts to stabilize Darfur and protect civilians.

19 Dec 10 - Update on Khor Abeche situation

19 December 2010 - UNAMID peacekeepers in Khor Abeche, South Darfur, continue to ensure the safety and security of displaced civilians sheltered outside the UNAMID team site following fighting between Sudanese Armed Forces and Sudan Liberation Army / Minni Minawi last week. The number of IDPs around the UNAMID base is now estimated to be over 1000 people.

The Mission also reports that approximately two thousand displaced persons moved or are moving towards Shangil Tobaya, in North Darfur, and over 300 have gone to the locality of Menawashi, 35 km east of Khor Abeche.
