Closure of UNPOS

The United Nations Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS), established on 15 April 1995, supported the Federal Government’s peace and reconciliation efforts. Its mandate ended on 3 June 2013, with its responsibilities transferred to the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM).

Report of the UN Secretary-General on Somalia

The Secretary-General's Report (S/2013/69) of 31 January 2013 provides an update on major developments that occurred in Somalia on the three major tracks of the United Nations approach — (i) political; (ii) security; and (iii) humanitarian, recovery and development, and human rights. It also provides options and recommendations for the future United Nations presence in Somalia.
