Closure of UNPOS

The United Nations Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS), established on 15 April 1995, supported the Federal Government’s peace and reconciliation efforts. Its mandate ended on 3 June 2013, with its responsibilities transferred to the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM).

The Secretary-General strongly welcomes the outcome of the Consultative Meeting

New York, 06 September 2011The Secretary-General strongly welcomes the outcome of the consultative meeting held in Mogadishu from 4 to 6 September, at which key Somali leaders agreed on a detailed Roadmap for completing the current transitional period. He is encouraged that such an important political meeting was held inside Somalia. This marks another step forward in the implementation of the Djibouti Peace Process. [Full Statement]
