Closure of UNPOS

The United Nations Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS), established on 15 April 1995, supported the Federal Government’s peace and reconciliation efforts. Its mandate ended on 3 June 2013, with its responsibilities transferred to the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM).

Mogadishu, 30 October 2012 – The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Somalia (SRSG), Dr. Augustine P. Mahiga condemns in the strongest terms the latest killing of another media worker in Mogadishu. The latest victim is a playwright and comedian for Kulmiye News Network, Warsame Shire Awale; who was shot dead by unidentified gunmen last night in Mogadishu.
