The United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) denounces the violence and looting that occurred Friday in Kaga Bandoro, following tensions between anti-Balaka and ex-Seleka elements in Ndomete and then in Kaga Bandoro.

MINUSCA regrets the loss of human lives and injuries and also denounces attacks against the humanitarian community and the United Nations. An aid worker was seriously injured during the incidents.

MINUSCA calls on all protagonists to cease the hostilities immediately and stresses that they will be held accountable for their actions. The Mission condemns all those who are backing and fueling tensions in Nana Gribizi prefecture or elsewhere in the Central African Republic in order to undermine the country's stability.

MINUSCA has decided to reinforce its military presence in Kaga Bandoro and Ndomete to prevent any further deterioration of the security situation, in line with its mandate to protect civilians. MINUSCA force has already intervened in Ndomete to separate the belligerents and avoid any impact on the civilian population as well as in Kaga Bandoro to strengthen the city’s security, especially the hospital and in the IDP camp. The Force also continues to patroll in the city and on the Kaga Bandoro-Ndomete axis.

MINUSCA is in constant contact with the Central African authorities and with local officials to put in place joint measures, to stop the violence. The Mission calls on the communities in Kaga Bandoro to remain calm and to reject any manipulation and revenge.
 
MINUSCA continues to follow closely the developments both in Kaga Bandoro and the entire national territory and will not hesitate to take appropriate measures to prevent destabilization and to ensure the country’s territorial integrity.
