AU-ECCAS-UN-EU delegation: our only agenda is to silence the guns in the CAR

On the second day of their joint visit to the Central African Republic (CAR), a delegation from the African Union (AU), Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), United Nations (UN) and European Union (EU) held talks with the country’s President, Faustin Touadera, at the Renaissance Palace in Bangui on 3 June 2021.

Among the topics discussed was the quartet’s support for the implementation of the CAR Political Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation through inclusive dialogue as well as security, democracy, regional cooperation and sustainable development.

The meeting comes at a time of a growing disinformation and hate campaign against the UN peacekeeping mission in the country (MINUSCA).

“As the international community, our agenda is to help silence the guns in the CAR. Our only agenda is to ensure that peace reigns in this country,” said the AU Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Ambassador Bankole Adeoye, on behalf of the delegation. He appealed to Central Africans to continue supporting MINUSCA as a partner for peace and progress.

President Touadera assured the delegation of his government’s ambition to strengthen and re-energize its cooperation with all four organizations: “We want to declare, with a strong and clear voice, that we need our partners.” He added: “We welcome their support to meet the challenges that the CAR is going through.”
