As part of his regular field visits, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for the Central African Republic, Babacar Gaye went, on Saturday 28 February 2015, to Bossangoa to inquire about recent developments in the Ouham province.

During his visit, the Head of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) reiterated the commitment of the United Nations to support the Central African Republic in the protection of civilians, the restoration of the State authority and the political process.

The Head of MINUSCA noted, during his talks with administrative and municipal authorities, representatives of the civil society and a delegation of the Anti-Balakas, the difficulties encountered by stakeholders in their efforts to restore State authority and to provide employment to the youth. He particularly stressed the need for national reconciliation, in order to rebuild the social fabric of the city of Bossangoa which was unfortunately undermined following the departure of the Muslim community.

The Special Representative also encouraged armed groups to immediately lay down arms and be part of the dynamics of peace which will undeniably ensure them a better future. "Your neighbors are moving forward because they have evolved in a peaceful and stable environment," said the Head of MINUSCA. The Spokesman of the Anti-Balakas welcomed the initiative of Babacar Gaye and requested a "financial, economic and social" support to allow them return to normal civilian life.

Earlier, during a visit to the prefect of Ouham, Ms Clothilde Namboi and a meeting with representatives of representatives of the Civil Society at the City Hall, the Special Representative instructed members of the Civil Affairs unit of MINUSCA to implement Quick Impact Projects in order to help the restoration of the criminal justice system of Bossangoa. Similarly, Babacar Gaye announced the rehabilitation of the Bossembélé-Bossangoa road, soon after the expected arrival of a team of military engineers.

The Special Representative was accompanied by a delegation, including the Chief of the Police of MINUSCA Luis Carrillho and the Commander of Sector West, General Evariste Murenzi.
