The Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations in the Central African Republic, Babacar Gaye, met with the Chadian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Moussa Faki Mahamat, in N'Djamena on Friday, 10 July 2015.

The Head of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), who arrived the same day in N'Djamena, briefed his host of the latest developments in CAR since the conclusion of the Bangui Forum. He mainly referred to progress made in the electoral process, notably the launch of voters' registration in Bangui. Up to date, 96365 people have registered in the capital city. He also mentioned progress in preparing the ground for the DDRR programme following the signing of an Agreement on the principles of Disarmament, Demobilisation, Repatriation and Reintegration between the CAR government and armed groups.

The Head of MINUSCA commended the Head of State of Chad, Idriss Déby Itno, for his leadership at the helm of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS). He indeed succeeded in mobilizing its peers in the sub-region to assist CAR out of the crisis. He highlighted Chad's political, military and financial assistance to its neighbor. Earlier, Babacar Gaye had expressed MINUSCA's sympathy towards the Chadian government after the 15 June 2015 terrorist attack in N'Djamena.

Minister Faki welcomed the progress made and reiterated his country's continued commitment to lasting peace and security in the Central African Republic. He also commended MINUSCA for its achievements and encouraged the Mission to pursue its efforts with a view to creating the conditions for free, fair, transparent and open elections.
