MINUSCA reaffirms its impartiality regarding Central African communities

The United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) deplores the beginning of a disinformation campaign, which spreads messages of division and hate to local populations to hamper the robust actions undertaken by the Mission in the context of the restoration of State’s authority.

MINUSCA wishes to reaffirm its total impartiality in the implementation of the Mandate it has been entrusted with by the Security Council, for the benefit of the all of the people of the Central African Republic. "We do not work to the detriment of any community nor the exclusive benefit of any other," said the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for the Central African Republic, Babacar Gaye.

"What we would like to see is a united diverse and secular Central African Republic,   and that is exactly why we are taking important actions, regardless of religious, ethnical, regional affiliations or otherwise, against the armed groups that had confiscated a part of the authority of the State," the Special Representative stated.

In this respect, MINUSCA encourages the Central African authorities to establish representative and balanced local institutions wherever its authority is restored.

MINUSCA invites all stakeholders, including armed groups, to change their posture, by dropping their weapons and joining the current momentum for national reconciliation, the only option to lift the country out of the deep crisis it is confronted with.
