Peace keeping Chief reaffirms UN support to the Central African Republic

The Under Secretary-General of United Nations peacekeeping operations, Hervé Ladsous, arrived in Bangui, Central African Republic (CAR), on September 5, 2015 for a four-day visit.

This trip, the fourth in 2015, aims to reaffirm the United Nations support to the Central African Republic after the resignation of General Babacar Gaye from the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA). It is also falls within the framework of the forthcoming general elections. In this regard, Mr. Ladsous said it is “a crucial phase. There is a calendar and it is a must to stick to it”.

This visit will also aim at mobilizing MINUSCA’s civilian and military personnel for the fight against sexual exploitation and abuse. Committed by a few, these acts tarnish the excellent work done by a majority conscious of its mission.

Hervé Ladsous will meet with the interim authorities, the National Authority for elections and the international community.

The Military Adviser, General Maqsood Ahmed, and the Director of the Africa Division, Mrs. Nannette Ahmed, are part of the delegation of the Under Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations.

At the of his visit, Hervé Ladsous will hold a press conference on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at 11:00 at the headquarters of MINUSCA.
