Senegalese peacekeeper donates blood to save pregnant woman

Berbérati, Central African Republic (CAR) – Police officer Ousseynou Ka, of MINUSCA’s Senegalese Formed Police Unit (FPU) deployed to the CAR’s Mambéré-Kadéi prefecture, could not remain indifferent to the distress he witnessed on 8 March 2021.

While on security patrol in Berberati, southwestern CAR, the Senegalese blue helmets encountered a visibly distraught man in front of the city’s Regional University Hospital. He was frantically searching for a blood donor for his pregnant wife who was about to give birth, and whose condition urgently required a blood transfusion.

Compelled to act to save the mother and her unborn child, officer Ousseynou Ka promptly volunteered to donate blood.

His spontaneous act of kindness and generosity proved to be a lifesaver, for the new mother and her little girl are both doing fine – to the relief and delight of the new father!
