For their contribution to peace, security, and the democratic process in the Central African Republic, 157 peacekeepers—including seven women—from the 10th Company of the Bangladeshi Special Forces of MINUSCA, deployed since November 2025, were awarded the United Nations Medal on October 7, 2026, in Bangui. This award honors their work to protect civilians, ensure the security of elections, and maintain stability in the country.

The medal parade was presided over by the Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General, Mohamed Ag Ayoya, in the presence of representatives of the Central African Armed Forces (FACA) as well as several MINUSCA contingents. In his remarks, Mohamed Ag Ayoya praised the professionalism and dedication of the Bangladeshi military personnel, highlighting their vital role in carrying out the Mission’s mandate. “Since your arrival in November 2025, you have demonstrated exceptional resilience, great discipline, and a remarkable ability to adapt. You have responded with professionalism and determination to the many operational demands,” he said.

A Decisive Contribution to the Electoral Process and Security

He particularly highlighted the contingent’s support to the 2025–2026 electoral process, notably through protection, mobile escort, and security missions carried out on behalf of the National Electoral Authority (ANE) in Bangui and in several regions. “Your support for the electoral process helped create the conditions for the peaceful exercise of democratic rights and an inclusive and democratic environment. These efforts demonstrate that security is not limited to protecting people but also gives them confidence and hope for the future, emphasized Mohamed Ag Ayoya.

Speaking on behalf of the contingent, the Commander of MINUSCA’s 10th Bangladeshi Special Forces Company, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Hasibul Hasan, expressed his pride in receiving this distinction on behalf of all the soldiers who have served under the United Nations flag. “Today, as we celebrate this medal, I am deeply proud to represent the soldiers who have served with dedication, discipline, and courage,” he said.

Reflecting on his unit’s key achievements, he noted that, upon their arrival, these peacekeepers took part in disarmament and demobilization operations in the Sikikédé area, located in Vakaga Prefecture.

The military also conducted patrols both day and night to enhance public safety and help maintain stability in their areas.

A Commitment Beyond Military Missions

Beyond their security missions, Bangladesh's Special Forces have distinguished themselves through their engagement with local communities. “You have provided significant support to local communities and strengthened our ability to fulfill our mission,” said Mohamed Ag Ayoya.

In Lobaye, the contingent conducted long-range patrols and provided security escorts for a team from the International Criminal Court (ICC) along the Ndjo-Bossembele axis. As a special commendation from the Secretary-General, this medal is, above all, a recognition of the sacrifices made by the soldiers throughout their deployment. “Each medal tells a story of dedication, sacrifice, and commitment. It represents the long days and nights of service, the time spent away from families and loved ones, and the shared determination to build a safer future for others,” he said.

This ceremony provided an opportunity to recognize the commitment of the Bangladeshi Special Forces to peace, the protection of civilians, and stability in the Central African Republic. Deployed since November 2025, the 10th Company has contributed significantly to efforts to secure the country and support the democratic process, demonstrating Bangladesh’s commitment to United Nations peacekeeping operations
