Radio Guira FM, or the Palaver Tree, is the radio station established by the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA). Its mission is to promote a culture of peace and reconciliation while supporting the restoration of State authority.
Established on 14 September 2014, one day before the official deployment of MINUSCA, Guira FM broadcasts 24 hours a day, providing daily news and a wide range of programmes in French and Sango. Its content highlights MINUSCA's activities in implementing its mandate, in partnership with United Nations agencies in the Central African Republic, national authorities, the humanitarian community, and various civil society organizations.
Guira FM also works to bring communities closer together, counter propaganda and hate speech, combat disinformation campaigns, promote social cohesion, and foster a climate of peace. By broadcasting information that is verified, accurate, balanced, comprehensive, and impartial, the station helps address rumours that fuel fear and violence.
Since 14 September 2014, Guira FM has been broadcasting on 93.3 FM. In addition to Bangui, the capital, the station now reaches 13 other towns and localities across the Central African Republic: Bria, Bouar, Kaga-Bandoro, Bambari, Birao, Ndélé, Bossangoa, Paoua, Bangassou, Berberati, Obo, Sibut, and Bocaranga.
Guira FM is also available online at https://www.radioguira.org/. It remains the only radio station with near nationwide coverage, enabling people across the Central African Republic to follow, often in real time, the major events shaping the country's life.
