Bria: UN and local women jointly celebrate the International Women Day

8 March 2020 - UN Mission women joined their peers of the local community in Bria (East) to celebrate the International Women Day. A great march went from the local hospital to the townhall, under songs promoting peace in the world in general, and particularly in the Central African Republic. A real opportunity to feel and express happiness for inhabitants of a city that suffered confrontations these last days.

Among the large crowd of women of all socio-professional categories, could be seen officials, including the representatives of the Prefect of Haute Kotto, MINUSCA Head of Office, and some armed groups as well.

By mean of songs, women announced messages of promotion of women for better participation in peace and development process in the country, as they have their say. According to their representative, ‘’women should not be victims but those who have the full capacity to contribute effectively to global peace and development.’’

A sports event was also organized to mark the day. A women's football match between MINUSCA and locals ended by a 1-1 draw.
