MINUSCA regrets the death of a CAR civilian during an incident involving its battalion tasked with the presidential security
The United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) deplores the death of a Central African civilian which occurred on 5 June 2016 during an incident in which a group of supporters set upon a MINUSCA battalion assigned to presidential security.
During the altercation, a civilian was killed, having been hit by a bullet. An investigation was immediately initiated into the circumstances of the incident. Following suggestions from various sources, the Mission would like to clarify at the onset that the death of the civilian is not in any way related to religious considerations.
MINUSCA will inform on the issue as soon as possible.
