Arriving in Bangui on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 to reaffirm the commitment of the organization to the authorities and people of the Central African Republic and to support the government in achieving sustainable development goals (SDG), the President of the United Nations General Assembly, Peter Thomson, accompanied by the President of the National Assembly, Karim Meckassoua, the Prime Minister, Simplice Sarandji and the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of MINUSCA, Parfait Onanga-Anyanga, went to MINUSCA’s military hospital to visit the bedside of the UN peacekeepers that were wounded during the attack on their convoy on Monday 8 May near the village of Yogofongo, 20 km from Bangassou in the south-east of the Central African Republic. Peter Thomson comforted the wounded personally and on behalf of the organization and took the opportunity to salute the dedication of peacekeepers engaged in all theaters of operations in the name of peace. Four peacekeepers, all Cambodian, were killed in the attack.
