CAR political parties to international community: continue to support us for peace
International community efforts to facilitate an inclusive dialogue for the peace and reconciliation process in the Central African Republic (CAR) remain on course – with consultations between the visiting AU-ECCAS-UN-EU delegation with national political parties on 4 June 2021 in Bangui.
The delegation held separate bi-lateral talks with members of the CAR ruling party and their allies as well as the opposition – with the sticky political and security situation in the country in focus.
“We discussed the day’s burning political and security issues, especially cooperation with MINUSCA and all international partners as well as the election and peace processes in the country," said Bruno Yapande, vice-president of the ruling Mouvement Cœurs Unis (MCU) party.
Opposition figure Maitre Nicolas Tiangaye of the Convention républicaine pour le progrès social (CRPS) party said “the meeting with the AU-ECCAS-UN-EU delegation arrived at an opportune time, at a moment when the country is going through a deep crisis. The problems should be solved through dialogue with all, rather than arms”.
“I have noted the desire of all partners to create a peaceful, democratic space to tackle the numerous challenges that the CAR faces. We are appealing to the international community to remain by our side,” noted Martin Ziguélé, representing the Mouvement pour la libération du peuple centrafricain (MLCP) opposition party.
