Educate and equip: MINUSCA supports the youth and gendarmes of Bossangoa

Thanks to a donation from MINUSCA approximately 1,500 young people, girls and boys, of Bossangoa have from now on access to computers in the city’s multimedia centre. The new computers will allow them to access training and to become more competitive, in a country where unemployment affects the youth particularly hard.

MINUSCA provided training on the use of the IT tool and also conducted civic education to promote dialogue, reconciliation and social cohesion.

During a ceremony on 26 April  to mark the delivery of the equipment, the Head of MINUSCA’s regional Office in Bossangoa, Thomas Vaah, encouraged  the youth to take advantage of these installations. The regional manager of the NGO “Youth National Pioneer”, Gisèle Ange Ouandé, asked them to feel ownership of this project and to maintain it to demonstrate their maturity and their awareness regarding the protection of common properties.

In this city, deeply marked by the intercommunal violence, MINUSCA also took care of the rehabilitation of the gendarmerie. This initiative enters within the framework of the support the restoration of the authority of the State on all the Central African territory.

"In the name of the government and on my behalf, I praise the multi-form supports which the UN mission in CAR gives for the reconstruction of our administrations weakened after the crises that CAR have faced", said Clotide Namboï,  the Prefect of Ouham region..

"Now that the rehabilitated infrastructures are available, it is necessary to maintain them. The Gendarmes have to revert to their professional habits and of ethical values", added Mrs Namboï.

Mr. Vaah announced that the premises of the gendarmerie and those of the police will soon receive furniture and office supplies.

MINUSCA’s "Quick impact projects” will help rehabilitate and equip other state infrastructure, including the buildings of the sub-prefectures of Bouca and Nana-Bakassa.  Furthermore, the city’s gendarmerie post will be completely reconstructed and equipped.
