Serbian medical contingent awarded UN medal for contribution to peace

While preparing to leave and be replaced by another squad, the 72 blue helmets of the Serbian medical contingent within MINUSCA received the United Nations medal on 13 November 2019, as a recognition of their valuable and much appreciated efforts to keep the organization’s military, police and civilian staff members in good health and fit to perform their tasks and meet Mission mandate, and also for supporting many health facilities in the Central African Republic .

« You have helped restore hope to the Central African Republic through the care you provided to United Nations personnel », said Mankeur Ndiaye, Special Representative of the Secretary General and Head of MINUSCA, the United Nations' peacekeeping mission in CAR.

In addition to their responsibilities related to MINUSCA since their deployment on 29 May 2019, they involved in many community activities aiming at providing much needed health care to CAR citizens, either through direct medical assistance or by donating equipment and medication to community hospitals.
