MINUSCA welcomes the return of internally displaced persons back to their homes in Berberati

MINUSCA welcomes the return and reinstallation of over 200 muslim Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), who had previously sought refuge at the Catholic mission, back to their homes in Berberati (located in the West of Central African Republic). In the wake of the Bangui Forum, this positive development is especially significant.

Within the framework of its mandate, MINUSCA provided logistical support to facilitate its success. According to the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Central African, Babacar Gaye, “this act sends a strong message to those who work to promote national reconciliation and social cohesion”.

The Head of MINUSCA strongly encouraged all Central Africans to imbibe this spirit as the best avenue towards creating a peaceful environment favorable to the holding of free, fair, open and transparent elections in order to end the political crisis in the country and pave the way for lasting peace.
